“the last good gig: a summer at the south pole”
JUL 2019, SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN

scientific american.png

This page focuses primarily on my fiction writing, but recently I sold an article to Scientific American about my time at the South Pole, Antarctica.

Read it here:
The Last Good Gig: A Summer at the South Pole.

A human presence so far from civilization, that the world and all its cares might as well be a planet away.

The first time you come to Antarctica, they say, is for the adventure.

The second time is for the money.

The third time is because now you don’t fit anywhere else.

Pendelwood Court, Sleepy Hollow, New York. On the surface, a near-perfect slice of suburbia in your basic Hudson River village.

Yet somewhere on this quiet little street, one of the most famous authors alive lives in deceptive mediocrity. No book signings, premieres, or late-night talk shows. No picture on the best-selling novels. In a time when people post what they eat for breakfast on the Internet, a world-famous author who keeps out of the spotlight is a front-page story waiting to happen, and Alice is a young, hungry journalist with not much in the remorse department.

But behind the tall fence that cuts off the author’s house from the neighborhood, it’s a different world. Reality can become negotiable. Free will can become a memory. And Alice will find, before long, that some secrets in Sleepy Hollow should remain in the shadows…

A young boy sits in a Swedish prison with no papers or identification, but he doesn’t expect to stay imprisoned for long. There are places where the walls don’t quite meet, where the darkness yields if you push against it. When he befriends a court-appointed lawyer and falls for his daughter, he finds himself wanting desperately to stay rooted in this reality and not lose them.

But there’s something else out there in the space between the spaces… it has been hunting him for a long time.

It knows his smell.

And it’s getting tired of waiting.

"The Winter After" in The anthology "Girl at the End of the World"

NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON! CLICK HERE.
PUBLISHED BY FOX BOOKS

The migration from the East has begun.

As the cold sets in across a ruined America, survivors of the nuclear winter begin to get desperate. The cities become war zones, gangs coalescing to stake out food, guns and warm places to spend the night. But without supplies coming in, the metropolis has become an overgrown palace for an impoverished baron.

Jupiter is not happy being holed up on the top floor of the Winchester hotel with her ex-boyfriend and his family, but that’s nothing compared to her fear of what’s waiting out there, in the snow. Supplies are running low, and when Jupiter leaves the Winchester to forage in the ruined city that was Denver, she knows she may never return.
